Fayette County Sheriff Deputies have raided an active meth lab in the 400 block of Peddicord Avenue.
Fayette County Sheriff Vernon P. Stanforth told Fayette Advocate that deputies were tipped on the possible lab and made entry into the house with assistance from the adult probation department shortly after 3 p.m., Tuesday.
“My units made entry into the residence at 410 B Peddicord Avenue with the Fayette County Adult Probation Department and found the lab to be active,” said Stanforth. “David Weller was inside the apartment and was taken into custody.”
Nearby apartments were evacuated as a precaution, said Stanforth.
“It’s what they call the one-pop method where they actually construe the chemicals together and it pretty much fixes itself,” said Fayette County Sheriff Chief Deputy David Bivens.
Federal DEA agents responded to the scene to assist in the disposal of the lab.
Washington Court House Fire Department and the Highland County Sheriff’s office also assisted.
The situation was under control, with the roadways re-opening and residents returning to their apartments around 7:45 p.m. Tuesday evening.
Weller is charged with Possession of Methamphetamine, a felony of the fifth degree, and is incarcerated in the Fayette County Jail in lieu of bond. He is scheduled to appear for an arraignment before the Washington Court House Municipal Court on Wednesday morning.
Deputies are continuing their investigation of the incident and additional charges in the matter are likely.
“We’re here in this area quite a bit, but we also enhance our patrol in this area,” said Bivens. “When you tend to have a lot of people living in one area, there seems to be more trouble….we’re aware and we’re watching. If you’re doing it, we’re going to catch you.”
